DILIGENCE

 Diligence is either the conscientious in paying proper attention to a task; giving the degree of care required in a given situation or persevering determination to perform a task.

Either of the definitions depicts there is a task, the performer and a result. You can't expect to be a fire branded fellow when you are a fireproof. What you don't work for cannot appear for you to walk in it. 

If there should be any virtue you must posses to be a better person in life is should be DILIGENCE.

In season and out of season, work and be workable
